For the Boys: Carole Lombard

On January 16, 1942, Carole Lombard, accompanied by her mother, and 20 other people from California, presided over a war bond rally in Indianapolis. Her last words in her home state of Indiana, just before boarding TWA Flight #3 for the return to Hollywood were, "Before I say goodbye to you all - come on - join me in a big cheer- V for victory!"

A little while later, the plane went down in the mountains of Nevada, killing all 22 passengers.

Carole was posthumously awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Franklin Roosevelt as the first woman killed in the line of duty in WWII.

The Classic Leading Man Test

Lovely Lolita, over at Lolita's Classics, has a link on today's entry to "The Classic Leading [Man/Lady] Test." Lotsa fun. You answer a short multiple choice quiz and it tells you which leading man or lady you are most like.

My Results are shown below:

Your result for The Classic Leading Man Test...

Humphrey Bogart

You scored 33% Tough, 24% Roguish, 43% Friendly, and 5% Charming!

You're the original man of honor, rough and tough but willing to stick your neck out when you need to, despite what you might say to the contrary. You're a complex character full of spit and vinegar, but with a soft heart and a tender streak that you try to hide. There's usually a complicated dame in the picture, someone who sees the real you behind all the tough talk and can dish it out as well as you can. You're not easy to get next to, but when you find the right partner, you're caring and loyal to a fault. A big fault. But you take it on the chin and move on, nursing your pain inside and maintaining your armor...until the next dame walks in. Or possibly the same dame, and of all the gin joints in all the world, it had to be yours. Co-stars include Ingrid Bergman and Lauren Bacall, hot chicks with problems.

Truthfully, this came as a bit of a surprise, but a welcome one. Bogie is my favorite, but I find it hard to envision myself as like him in any discernible way. One thing is settled, though. I'm absolutely buying a fedora!
